There was much more than a single sign advocating “YES on 2D” illegally placed at this parking lot, which was leased by the City of Salida from the Salida Bottling Company Developers:
We are constantly approached by locals thankful that our referendum to block the Salida Bottling Company Development succeeded. At least temporarily, the parking lot on 1st Street is still available.
As bad as finding parking downtown has been this summer, imagine if that 60-plus parking spaces was currently being turned into high-rise Condos?
City Council believes there is no downtown parking problem, based on a pre-Covid lockdown parking study. Closing F Street since Covid has changed the situation dramatically during the summer months, but there have been no adjustments in their thinking.
If the UP Railroad lot across the river at end of F Street sells, that lot could disappear also. Big Trouble in Little Salida!
The only reason the parking situation is not much worse is that many locals boycott downtown during the summer months.
Does Council have a long-term parking solution, besides more and higher buildings?
In the meantime:
